Advanced Sports Chaplaincy Training

Certificate in Sports Chaplaincy

Our Advanced Sports Chaplaincy Training (Certificate in Sports Chaplaincy) is generally presented in two modules:

  • Present People, and
  • Sports Chaplaincy Context Training

Completion of both modules is required for anyone seeking accreditation as a sports chaplain with Sports Chaplaincy Australia. It includes 21 hours of delivered content (including a minimum of 14 hours face-to-face or online), along with additional reading and video presentations. The training includes instruction and practical experience around certain skill sets, along with discussion and reflection.

You want to be intentional about following Jesus. You want to see your care for others, your prayers, your words, and your life bring new hope to the community around you. You want to put into practice Jesus' calling to love and discipleship.

Present People provides a simple approach, and effective tools, to make a kingdom difference in the places and the people that are part of our everyday lives.

It can be attended as a standalone course that is applicable in any community context, or as the first module in our Advanced Sports Chaplaincy Training.

This innovative training will change the way you think about ministry!

You've completed our Present People course, and you're ready to take the next step towards representing Jesus in a place and space where your community gathers - sports.

Our Sports Chaplaincy Context Training covers all you need to know to get started in a wide variety of sports chaplaincy settings.

 Ready! Set! Go!

This module covers:

  •  Providing Christian chaplaincy in a community context
  • The Guiding Principles of sports chaplaincy
  • Being available at a club or sporting community
  • Suicide awareness - basic training
  • Referral - when and how to refer to further help
  • Introduction to pastoral care debriefs / critical incident responses in sports communities
  • Emotional, mental and spiritual "anatomy" of sports people
  • Sports environments (clubs, events, tours, institutes/academies, individual sports)
  • Club culture issues
  • Self-care for chaplains
